Festus Phiri is standing trial for allegedly killing his friend over an iPhone.
The suspect murdered his friend, Taurai Mugandani after they had both consumed drugs at their usual spot.
Festus in his confession before the court judge said he first met Taurai in 2011, and since then, they became friends.
He narrated further that they both went out on October 27, 2020, to get some food that is when the incident happened.
Festus told the court that his friend had agreed to go get food while he (Festus) went another way to buy codeine syrup for consumption.
Explaining why he killed Taurai, the suspect confessed that he had bought an iPhone from his friend at the cost of US$100, and paid the money, but that Taurai refused to give it to him.
According to him, some minutes after taking their codeine syrup, Taurai brought out the iPhone from his pocket to make a call. While he was making the call, he (Festus) brought out a knife and stabbed him in his neck.
He said he picked up the phone, dipped his hands in the pocket of the deceased, took a cigarette packet, boarded a Fun Cargo, and went his way while Taurai bleeds to death.
Reports have it that the suspect is now facing trial for bordering on robbery, contrary to and punishable.
Delivering his judgment, Justice Chinamhora adjourned the case to the 24th of May, 2021
