A 43-year-old herbalist, Kudakwashe Munyenyiwa, was on Friday arraigned before the Court for allegedly defrauding an ailing businessman of US$5K.
He was facing four counts of obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing.
The sangoma reportedly collected the money from the complainant, Lawrence Dube, in tranches under the pretext of curing his ailment.
The businessman had in January 2021 consulted Munyenyiwa, seeking medicines for diabetes, asthma, and deliverance from a spiritual attack.
The police alleged that Dube paid part of the sum to the sangoma in cash and made several deposits into his bank account.
Munyenyiwa also devised different strategies to maneuver the complainant each time he became suspicious.
However, the businessman realized that he had been swindled after his illness persisted.
He then invited the sangoma to his house in early February 2021 to collect another sum of money that is when he was arrested.
