We Are Ready To Reopen Schools – Government

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education says it is ready for the opening of schools as it awaits Presidential approval for learners to return to class.

After undertaking assessments across the country, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is finally ready to open formal learning centers but will be guided by the President on when it’s safe for in-class learning to resume.

This was revealed by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Ambassador Cain Mathema when he announced the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Board in Bulawayo this Wednesday.

He implored stakeholders to closely work with the ministry to avoid a false start.

“Ministry officials and I have been on a whirlwind assessing the situation in schools. We are confident and ready to open schools, but the safety of learners is important. When it’s safe to do so, the President will advise.”

The newly appointed fourteen-member ZIMSEC board chaired by Professor Eddie Mwenje has been challenged to spearhead the ministry’s competency-based curriculum.

“The board which superintends over ZIMSEC is made up of academics, lawyers, educationists, accountants and renowned administrators in whom we have faith that standards will be maintained and made better through their guidance. I hereby announce the appointment of the following members to serve in the ZIMSEC board from 2021-2024.”

“Professor Eddie Mwenje, Chairperson, Mrs. Milidzani Faith Masiye-Moyo Vice-Chairperson, Mr Fidelis Mhlanga, Professor David Jambwa Simbi, Mr. John Dewah, Dr Lazarus Nembaware, Ms Suzzane Joscelyne, Mr Rogers Sisimayi, Mr Wadzanayi Chirongoma, Mr Richard Gundane, Mr Sindile Mhlanga, Dr. Eventhough Ndlovu, Mr. Kind Kapfudza and Mr. Mike Kangeremu.”

Two more members of the board are yet to be announced.
